Is being a fat porn queen worth “honoring”?
By Daniel | July 20, 2008
[Update: There's more to this story. Read it here]
Seems like many BBW groups are carrying news of the October Los Angeles event called the BBW Honors. It’s being promoted by Darren Battle, also known as DJ Zulu, the owner/promoter of the Big Boogie Nights BBW dance events. Some may remember Darren’s promotion of 2 events in Portland and Seattle some years ago with “a more adult atmosphere” which failed miserably.
Taking a look at the type and number of categories in this presentation it seems more than 1/3 of these “honors” are going to BBW porn models, websites and adult films.
Or should that be a surprise from someone who once promoted himself as a “DungeonMaster…Focusing on BDSM In The Large Community”?
While I think the idea of honoring those who promote size acceptance is great, might the messenger obscure the message? Take a look at BBW Honors promoter Darren Battle’s posts in online groups devoted to spanking, punishment, fetish, bondage, “watersports”, and other prurient pursuits.
I’ve always maintained that there’s a big difference between “size acceptance” and “fat fetishism”. Darren’s interest seems to be more of the latter.
Is it a credit and “honor” to the size acceptance community to put women who gorge themselves and play with their fat on video for profit on the same stage (and the same level) as the National Association for Fat Acceptance? I think not.
If anything this event reeks more of “fatsploitation” than “honors”. I’m sure there will be many who’ll pony up $40 a ticket (sponsorships are $150-$500) to see their favorite fold-diddling cam girls in person. But how does that foster size acceptance?
Want to “honor” those who promote true size-acceptance and size-acceptance events? Join their organizations! Patronize their events! Much of the BBW community is already inexorably tied to prurient interests. Do we need more of that? Does that deserve an “honor”?
Update: According to a July 21 post on the event’s MySpace, the BYGIE Awards have been “temporarily postponed”. In an August 3 statement by producer Darren (“DJ Zulu”) Battle, on a BBW message board popular for its promotion of plus-size adult models, he wrote, “… I am sad to announce that the Bygies are postponed due to logistics, lack of time from some of the committee and other commitments. The Bygies will happen at some point, with me as producer or with someone else. We will keep you posted.” I’m not holding my breath.
Update: It appears Darren (“DJ Zulu”) Battle had long-time Seattle BBW party promoter Luke Henson ousted from the regular venue of his group, AbundanceNW, Chihuahua’s Cantina in Auburn, WA so he can promote monthly “Big Boogie Nights” there. A damn shame with the hundreds and hundreds of bars in Seattle/Tacoma, Battle chose to go after the only area bar featuring a BBW night instead of finding a new place and giving the size-positive community more choices. Other Saturdays of the month Battle will also DJ there with a promotion called “Viper Lounge”, but it will not be an event geared toward the plus-size community.

Hi Daniel, Thank you for teaching me the meaning of “prurient”. The act of accepting one’s size of oneself and of others is too realize that they have worth and value….to fuck. Are bbws worth fucking? I believe they are. There’s just so many places on a bbw where one can insert his cock. Anyone promoting that deserves an “honor” in my book. I’m one of those “bbw cam girls” and I love showing the world that bbw bodies are made for sex. The sexual fetish of bdsm/bondage, even to the point of humiliation websites, promote that idea. Was it the bondage part you don’t like or the whole adult porn industry that turns you off?

Aaronica, I think you should have stopped when you were ahead. You say:
> The act of accepting one’s size of oneself and
> of others is too realize that they have worth
> and value…
Why add “to fuck” on there? Let’s face it, most men will stick their cock into most ANY female of ANY size who’s warm, wet and willing. But take them on a real date where they can be seen by their friends? Or (gasp!) marry a fat chick? Come on, you know we’re talking about 2 different things.
Perhaps one of the ancillary benefits of the size acceptance community is that it helps fat people with their self worth and esteem. That they are deserving as anyone of any size of all the respect, fulfillment and joys of life.
To feel sexy and desirable is certainly one of them. But let’s get real. It isn’t hard for a fat chick to find sex. Go to Craigslist and you’ll see lots of guys trolling for an no strings attached BBW boink.
To me, size acceptance is not being attracted “in spite of” nor “because of” one’s weight. It’s to make physical appearance a non-factor. When you talk about “fat admirers” though…that’s a different story. That has nothing to do with acceptance – that’s fetish. And that’s these cam girls prime audience. Whether it’s gorging themselves with food (how does THAT contribute to self esteem?) or putting on some freak show kneading their rolls of fat like some for the titillation of a guy (how does that contribute to “acceptance”) – neither one in my mind deserves an “honor” on the same stage or level as the work by NAAFA.
Personally I don’t want to be “admired” BECAUSE of my fat. How many BBW porn queens care about “acceptance”? Wouldn’t that put them out of business?
Adult porn is fine. Consenting adults are entitled to do whatever’s legal. Like any red-blooded guy, I view and enjoy it. What I have a problem with is “honoring” these sex merchants on the same stage as those truly working toward size acceptance like NAAFA. Why not combine the Nobel Peace Prize ceremonies with the AVN Awards for both of their “contributions” to society.
My rant is that there’s a time and a place for everything, and putting fat porn in the same league as benefiting size acceptance as those who work against size discrimination in hiring, accommodations, or media depiction is NOT in the best interest of our cause.
Perhaps in the best interest of the bank account of Darren Battles who already has a legacy of promoting/pimping fat sex. IMHO to wrap this in a cloak of “size acceptance” is bastardizing our movement. Want to have “Fat Sex” honors? Go for it! Want to honor those in the size acceptance movement? Don’t trivialize the work of these individuals and organizations by lumping them in with fat chicks who play with their pussy for a price.

There are worse things you can DJ Zulu. He will insist he is he no longer is into BDSM and Sex Parties (swingers are couples who swap, his parties are just single people having sex) but that is his entire being. He is a dead beat dad who does not pay child support for any of children. He has served time for domestic violence. ( he claims if the women werent crazy he would not have to hit them) and he has been charged with child endangerment. His claims of being a college graduate or his “helicopter crash” are all bogus. He is a con man at best and his followers choose to be ignorant becasue then what they do on the weekends and then their entire self worth will be shot to hell. BDSM and Sex parties are just a tip of the iceberg of what this supposed man is about.

One who knows is right on the money.
He is a liar of mass proportions. He preys on innocent fat girls of all types and all ages. Doesn’t matter what you are into or what your background is be will find a way to use you.
He may tell you he is single, but he’s not. He’s not married according to a background check, but he is with his girlfriend of about 5 years. She is just as much of a victim as we all are in all of this. She supports him and provides him with a nearly unlimited supply of airline tickets, she works for the airlines.
He is a master manipulator! I would go into more detail but I have a life and need to it!

Wow Dan! It took you long enough to post about me. And thanks for the plugs! I won’t respond to slander. And to the person above “Burnt By Battle” thanks for the PR! I’m sure this will be deleted though the other one will stay. Dan you are as much as the problem as any of us. Stop acting like you are the savior!

It took me “long enough”? Check the original date…it was last July! I saw your Craigslist ad last September inviting Seattle-area bar owners to contact you about your search for a Seattle venue. A friend of mine replied to check it out and got an email back from your representative, Angela Garmela. Yeah that Angela, the one who’s “curves you crave.“ Free enterprise is cool, dude…but to dis a fellow promoter in his own house? NOT in the best interest of the “community” you allegedly promote. I’m just sayin’.

Hey ladies, what is being said here about Darren and his use of women and manipulations are all true. Do yourself a favor and turn and walk away. Don’t let him keep calling you trying to, “talk” to you and keep you on the ropes.
